Default Martin 000-17SM soundwise same as D18?

Have seen an add of a used 000-17SM, can i compare it to a D18 or does this one have a sound of it’s own. Youtube movies sound good but would it be worth the purchase.

Not going to be much like a D-18. The smaller 12 fret body will have a very resonant sound that provides a wide soundscape. The D-18 will be more powerful and projective with a more focused soundscape.

Think shotgun versus rifle.

Ok thanks , here in Holland we don't have guns but i can imagine what you mean. Guitar sounds very good on YouTube and i am close to go take a look. The other day i was out for a D16RGT but it had to many scratches. Then i noticed this guitar.

They sound nice, but not like a D18, at least not like mine
Seems like you already have a flock of nice guitars. May I askwhy you would want it?
Is it because you don't own an all Mahogany guitar?

000-17sm isn’t all hog, it’s sitka over hog. And I’d love to try one. If it’s priced right I’d probably pick one up just for the scarcity factor, as they have been discontinued.

Yes, my mistake. I looked them up.
There are still quite a few around when I looked.

Rokdog49, yes i do own a flock but some will leave this flock and i want to end up with Martn - Taylor and Eastman. Noticed an add and it’s appearance caught my eye. Sometimes this happens. Movies on YouTube sound pretty good. And it is discontinued so becoming a collectable. At least to pass on to my son one day

My daughter in law has a 000-17SM. It is an amazing guitar, specially considering the price point. It's very versatile - sounds good finger style, strumming, and flat picking.

Arjan, those are great guitars, in my opinion. 12 fret Triple O’s don’t sound exactly like dreadnoughts, but they do have more bass response than 14 fret Triple O’s.

I’d say if you can afford it and you like it when you get a chance to play it, get it while the getting is good. One suggestion I would make is that you take a set of the strings that you like along with you when you go see the guitar, and put them on it if the strings already on the guitar are funky or crusty.

Hope this helps.
