I have the TC Helicon harmony singer and always use it in my chain. Just for the tone and reverb it's worth having alone. I do use the harmony but sparingly only for about 4-5 songs in 2 X 45 minute sets.

It's easy to use as long as you don't just fingerpicking. They of the harmony goes of the chords you play on your guitar so fingerpicking can confuse it on I ocassions

I think the newer Boss VE1 is the best bang for the buck. I don't use harmonies much but the VE1 is a lot cheaper and gives you verb, delay, eq and pitch correction.

This is my biggest issue, as I primarily fingerpick.

I played at a beer/music festival with a friend of mine who is a finger picker. He used my harmony singer and struggled a bit with it so if your similar id say it's probably not for you.

Harmony wise maybe look at TC Helicon intelligent harmony which doesn't required guitar to go through it

I think it seems weird to see one person and hear three vocal parts. The demos I have seen and heard sometimes seem to have pitch shift issues (one voice sounds too high, like the Chipmonks). I would like something that can do double duty- 1) Give me some guitar effects i.e. compression, reverb, acoustic enhancement. 2) Give me some vocal enhancement i.e. compression, reverb, doubling... I am not too interested in harmonies, pitch correction or looping. The pitch correction demos I have heard sound a bit synthetic to my ears. YMMV. Thanks everyone for your great info!

What are you folks doing live?

Thank you.

I COMPLETELY AND TOTALLY AGREE WITH YOU. But I'm a dinosaur too.

We live in an age where those not so ancient as we have been going to major act concerts where even the star's vocals are recorded. People don't care, so those that want to sound like more than they are, can. If it gets them paying gigs and they are happy, and their audience is happy, what can us cranky old geezers do?

I have not heard too many who can use the self control necessary to make enhanced vocals sound good. I have heard some creative loopers do some interesting stuff.

My benchmark for greatness continues to be a performer who can go solo with just a guitar or piano and move me with good writing and performing skills.

Bob, I am not a fan of those vocal harmonizers because they all sound too cheezy to my ears. But hey, if it worksfor others, thats great!

Rick, they remind me of the Eventide Harmonizer we had in the studio
30 yr. ago. Whatever floats your boat. I just want a clear, tight and pleasant sounding PA for vocals and guitar.

Hi Bluescam,
Maybe the TC Helicon Play Acoustic is a good fit for you. Just don't us the harmony function. The rest of the box is exactly what you asked for.

Thanks guys. I'll check into the VE1 and Acoustic Play.

Cheers.

What about the TCH Play Electric with an acoustic guitar? It seems more flexible than the TCH PA and has more options. On some songs I would like to put some distortion on my acoustic guitar when playing slide. Thx.

I think you could get some good results with the Play Electric. From what I understand there is a kind of BodyRez setting in there - but it isn't the full deal like with the Play Acoustic. I think it is just the EQ that goes in to the BodyRez, but not the multiband compression, subtle ambiance and secret pixie dust. I really like the simplicity of the Play Acoustic and the qualities that the BodyRez imparts to my guitar's signal, but if you are wanting more variety, including some distortion etc... I would definitely check out the Play Electric.

You could also check on the user forum on TC Helicon's site, as I believe there have been some threads about using the PE for acoustic...

Thanks, SP. I will check into the forum. Sounds like the PE is the way to go.
Cheers.
