Default Need Sapwood Back Pics with a Back Strip

Hi Gang,

I was wondering if anyone had pics of backs with sapwood, and in particular with a back strip as well. I'm trying to see if using a back strip with backs that have sapwood in the center is not a good idea.

Appreciate any pics you can post....Thanks!

Hen

This looks like my 06 914ce-LTD but i have darker sapwood on the sides as well. I think without the backstrip would have been better although it doesn't bother me. As long as it's not a wedge, i just can't get into the wedge thing.

Thanks guys ... here's the back set that I'm considering having a back strip done in Bloodwood.....

Anyone have pics of a similar combination (in terms of color - dark wood, with bloodwood back strip running through that sapwood)?

BTW - top will be a Sinker Redwood....

One issue I have is that, like in this case, it's pretty easy for the sapwood to be uneven. Which makes it look like the center strip is off center.
To my eye, it just doesn't work well with sapwood and a center strip together.

I think you should go with no center strip.

See the Gerald Sheppard african blackwood almost at the bottom of the page at http://www.sheppardguitars.com/details.htm - the sapwood actually travels into the heel cap!
