Wren Slope Dreadnought: Cocobolo/Spruce
Hi folks ... looks like I'm going to bore you with yet another build thread. This one is going to a customer in California and will be a variation on my MS-1 slope-shouldered dreadnought model. It features a really lovely set of Cocobolo with a bit of sapwood and some nice well-defined dark "rio" grain patterns and a stunning spruce top ... as well as upgraded Waverly tuners, custom string spacing, a subtle Manzer wedge, the RFX (raised fingerboard extension), checkered top marquetry and a "Taj Mahal" peghead shape with rope binding ... an overall funky vintage sort of look. Here goes!

David, I've noticed that you often like to slip your scraper plane into the picture with a PILE of shavings. You must really love that thing! And know how to get it working really well.
That cocobolo looks really nice!

Thanks Nemoman! And with the new CITES regs, I don't have any suppliers who will ship Cocobolo to Canada anymore ... ugh!

Hi Ryan ... that Stanley No.80 Scraper is absolutely deadly for getting rid of thickness sander scratches in a hurry. They're easy to sharpen and set up and are a lot less wear and tear on your hands than a normal scraper. They kick up a pile of shavings in no time. And yes, I've got to think of some new photo opportunities for these build threads. Trouble is, when I'm in the thick of a build, I'm not thinking about photos much.
