Default cheapest pc recording hardware

(probably asked a thousand times)

I would like to make some simple recordings. I'm not a pro or a performer but I want to record some things for soundcloud and to show guitar sounds and such.

I recorded on my cell phone and it was OK. My built in laptop mic sucks.

Is there any simple USB or external plug in mic that you would recommend?

I've recorded with an AT2020 USB Mic and Audacity recording software, which is a free download.
