Possible to make an acoustic/electric out of an acoustic?
I bought a used Fender Dreadnought and wanted to know if it's possible to turn it into an acoustic-electric guitar. Will there be much cutting and a possibility of ruining the guitar? I'm pretty handy with many things and my brother did it many years ago, but I'm not all too sure how he did it.
Just curiosity, really. Thanks. |

Find the issue of Acoustic Guitar magazine with the chrome resonator on the cover (you can read it on their web site) - last fall sometime. It has a great article about adding an aftermarket pickup to your acoustic and covers almost all the options.

Hi Chuck...
Acoustic electrics just mean it's an acoustic guitar with a pickup in it. Find a pickup and install it. You don't have to put in one that has a barn door (side of the guitar install). I recommend the K&K Pure Western Mini. K&K - click They sell blems on e-bay for far less, and they perform equally well. |

A lot of folks like the Fishman under-the-saddle pickup...

I bought my acoustic (as an acoustic) and had the shop where I bought the guitar install an under saddle pickup. I wouldn't dare cut a rectangle out of the side of the guitar myself for fear of screwing up (as I usually do).
