Default Cases for Emerald Chimaera or synergy X20 harp guitar?

Hi everybody. I lust after these two instruments and although I doubt I'll have the cash to afford either in the near future, a question did pop into my head today...

I know they both include a custom gig bag but given the recent horror stories about damaged or destroyed guitars while flying, I would want to go with a hard case even though they are made of carbon fiber.

What are people using case wise for the Emerald Chimaera or synergy X20 harp guitar? I'm curious as it doesn't seem like standard Gator or SKB ata tsa cases would fit these instruments...

Anybody care to chime in on this?

Thanks!

Sean at Emerald is the one to ask about this. Chimaera used to come with a hard case, which might still be an option. I know first-hand that Emerald and Blackbird ship carbon fiber guitars in the gig bag inside a decently padded standard cardboard box. I don't know about the harp guitars.

That is parcel service (mail, UPS). All bets are off with the professional baggage maulers at airlines.

I've owned a 6/12 Chimaera with the hardshell case and the case is well-made. I've flown with it as checked baggage without problem. I have a new 6/12 coco woody Chimaera nearing completion. It will have a hardshell case for when I fly, and will also be shipping with the new Chimaera gigbag which seems to be well-made based on those I've asked.

I had one of the first doublenecks before they had cases. I bought a keyboard gigbad that has worked well. Has Velcro try downs.

My X7 Synergy has an Aluminum flight case. It's a lot more protection than I need. Pretty heavy too so I use a keyboard gig bag.

I don't see the hard case as an option on the Emerald site anymore. (I may ask them at some point but I don't want to waste their time if I'm not ready to buy the instrument yet.) That is interesting regarding the keyboard case route!

Hey Tommy CanAm... Could I get more info on the case you have now and the one that will be for the new double neck when she arrives? Thanks!

Hey studioman. I should have my new Chimaera within a few weeks and it will ship with both a new hardshell case and gigbag, both designed for the Chimaera. How about, when I get them, I will post pics and provide measurements for both which I will include in my NGD thread.

Pics may be good for others but won't do me any good I'm afraid. Did emerald provide the cases or are they designed by some third party company? I'm curious as Emerald only has the gig bag for a case option for any of the in stock double neck guitars...

Oh, that's right, I did know that you're visually-impaired, but forgot. Sorry.

Emerald provided the hardshell case. That said, I don't want to speak out-of-turn, but I speculate that the cases and gigbags are outsourced. Even though they may only provide a gigbag for an in-stock Chimaera, I'm pretty sure you can order one. Perhaps email Sean at [email protected] for a definitive answer.
