Default Which 12 String should I choose?

I will hopefully be getting (or at least ordering) a 12 string guitar sometime later this year. I want the best available for playability and sound.

Please list what you consider your top three brands (with model number) with or without commentary. I don't have to get the guitar this year if there are reasons I should wait. I am not against ordering a particular instrument (or brand) without playing it, but I would like to play a few more first if that option is available.

I play guitar, mandolin and a few other instruments for fun and this seems like the next logical step.

Thank you in advance for your thoughts or opinions.

I think your choices for a carbon 12 are either Rainsong or Emerald. CA made a few before they went under but Peavey has not brought them back as yet. Both have several models to choose from. Both make very good guitars. You should be able to find a Rainsong 12 to play somewhere. JM3000 or WS3000 See if you like it, usually people know if a Rainsong is to their liking. I have Emerald Doubleneck so its part 12. Like it a lot.

"JM1000 or WS1000"

Should read: JM3000 or WS3000

Emerald X-20 OS in Cobalt Blue with Gold Tuners...Yum...Drool...12 String nirvana with no truss rod...
Oh...also a chimaera 6-12 (like Steve's) with the six string in Nashville tuning for recording purposes...in Any color...
But that's my dream I guess...
I have not played a Rainsong 12 yet, but the Six-ers sure sound sweet...

I was quite impressed by and considered a Rainsong WS3000 several years ago, and have regretted not grabbing it then. They have since become a special order item that most stores don't stock, so it can be tough to test drive one.

I do own a WS1000 six string, which is among the best guitars that I have.

Maybe I'm biased -but I'd choose a WS3000, plays great, wonderful sound, what more can I say? -and it looks amazing.

I'm looking forward to the arrival of my new Emerald X-20 OS 12-string w/o electronics. MacNichol's Guitars is installing a K&K passive pick-up designed for 12-strings. Should be soon

If I had it now I would swing by Wooster in a couple of weeks when I'm on the turnpike and you could give it a go.

I'm still up for getting together with folks if we can do it.

We need to throw out a date for a spring get together and say a Emerald X20 OS 12 and a Emerald Doubleneck will be there for the trying. We may get a crowd? Where else are the going to play those two in the same room?
