NGD - PRS T40E
I took possession of my new PRS T40E today, and immediately got to work. The guitar was a journey of discovery for me, and I learned a couple interesting things.
I learned that my lack of need for a pickup results in cutting wires. The Fishman controls inside the sound hole were not staying adhered with the 3M-type pads. I tried to restick it a few times, to no avail...so I ripped it out. I don't gig, and don't even own an acoustic amp...so I have ZERO need for electronics. Would've been cool if a non-pickup version was an option...but all's well that ends well! The wiring from the controls to the pickup were routed under the saddle. I thought the action was a bit too high...and I wanted to change the stock strings anyway...so I took the saddle out. Lo and behold, the wiring was resting at the bottom of the bridge pocket. Took all that out, and put the saddle back in. Perfect action on all 6 strings! Elixr Nanoweb Lights sound AMAZING on the instrument (12-53s). The new SE Acoustics are solid, gorgeous, and play wonderfully. Fit and finish are exceptional. The nut and saddle on mine was cut perfectly. Tuning is stable, there's no string binding at all, and intonation is spot on. The spruce top on mine is darker than what you would think a typical new guitar would have, and I love it. It looks like the guitar has been around for a decade, with a classy aged tone to it. In a world of Martin, Taylor, Eastman, Blueridge, Guild, Yamaha, etc...my personal opinion is that PRS is presenting a high-quality and highly-affordable option that's worth a serious look. https://s14.postimg.org/l0wsdzljl/20180217_185451.jpg https://s14.postimg.org/umqcu3x81/20180217_185515.jpg https://s14.postimg.org/r34f4ck8h/20180217_185501.jpg https://s14.postimg.org/pbbg9h3gh/20180217_185601.jpg

Congrats on the new guitar! I assume this is one of their new budget priced guitars they just announced at NAMM recently? I am interested in their A50E. Did you get yours through a dealer that already had stock of one? I have heard that it could be April or May before dealers had them.
Thanks in advance for the info.

I got mine from my local shop. They received one of each model, and I tested the 'top 4,' thinking I would go for the T50E. The T40E just spoke to me, so I had to have it.

During one of Paul's last month NAMM interviews he played a few SE chords. Full sound and a cutaway! They sounded like they would be my choice for the under $800 club.
Could be interesting in the future to hear what the foreign built offerings have in store. They have really picked it up more and more the last 10 years. Although I do pity some of the unsustainable tone wood harvesting that must be going on with world wide demand of tropical woods. |

Very interesting. There's quite a lot of commotion on PRS acoustic here recently. Good thing!
