I'm a believer.

In what I don't know, but I've seen and heard some weird things in my 59+ years hanging around.

Years ago the ex and I shared a house with a ghost, we could hear her walking around in the the living room and kitchen in the middle of the night. Once we had misplaced a set of binoculars, looked everywhere for them for a few months. Then a few days before we were heading out on vacation, we wanted to take the binoculars, they appeared on the bed.

On a side note a year or so after we bought the house I ran into the previous owner and he asked if we had met the ghost yet.

So yes I have heard things I shouldn't have heard.

I live in a 200-year-old house with 275 feet of cast iron, hot water radiators. Pipe expansion and contraction thru the walls make it sound like someone's walking around. When the weather turns cold, the noises freak me out every year.

I suppose it is only once or twice a day that i catch him trotting by in the corner of my eye.

I also know if my old Dad has come to visit. Jane and I both smell his tobacco smell (no-one has smoked in this house since he died in 1985).

I used to live in a very creepy flat (apartment) on London - AndrewG will remember it. Most evenings there were very easily heard footsteps from the basement to the top floor - and more than once they passed right through me if I was on the steps.

Our little moggy cat used to sit with us in the lounge and watch ... something we couldn't see walking across the lounge almost every night.

The building was only a couple of hundred years old but there was talk of there being a fire once that killed someone and some cats.

Of course I don't really believe in ghosts but I suspect that us mere humans may have something in our large but largely useless brains that can recreate a faint memory somehow.

I used to live in an old house in a Lake District village called Allonby. Our cat used to see things on the stairway to the top floor. One time I had a good friend and his Mother stay over on the top floor and in the morning she told me she had been visited by an old man in a seaman’s uniform. It transpired a sea captain had lived in the house when it was first built..

Ah c’mon Wrighty, I think we all know what really happened there.

Who among us can honestly say they have never dressed up as a ghost and “visited” sleeping ladies ?

What ? So just me ?

What about hearing things you don't want to hear? That was meant as a parent or IT admin joke.

Interesting to catch tinnitus mentioned here. This is getting worse and it's time to find out if it's another element of age that's no fun or something that can be helped.

Maybe that tinnitus is stopping me from hearing the ghosts?

I don't believe in Ghosts. I wish I did/they existed and I wish my dad would come back and haunt me sometimes. I'll take anything I can get.

I used to totally believe in ghosts, until I realized that if they really existed we would be literally going nuts from all the hauntings given the number of people that have passed (uncountable?). Now, not so much.

But then again, maybe most "go to the light"

Anyway, stuff like this can still give you the chills, if you let it....

Just because the voices aren’t real doesn’t mean they don’t have some good ideas! [emoji12]

More than once I've heard people saying things that I wish I hadn't heard. These things were in 2 categories: 1) embarrassing; 2) incriminating. In both types of situations, I try to remain unseen, and move slowly out range...

My parents' house has solid oak slabs for their sub-floor as opposed to plywood. When the weather changes, it sounds like someone taking about 2-3 steps down the hall.

Also, the house I'm in now does a weird thing too. Overnight, something in the floors settles. Just about every morning, I walk into the kitchen. When I step in the same area, the stairs creak...although they are about 15 feet away. Always freaks me out a little.
