What is the "best" number 3 guitar pedal?
I have a Cry Baby wah and an Ibanez Tube Screamer. What do you recommend for my third pedal? I play through a Super Reverb and a Champion 40 for practice. I don't play metal, mostly Eagles type stuff, some country, and classic rock. At home. Don't gig anymore.
And, after I buy the pedal you recommend, how about the best pedal board? I was looking at a Gator, but a lot of guys didn't like the Velcro. Didn't look too sturdy to me, either. (Links are always appreciated).

For classic rock, at home, you don't NEED anything else since your amp has reverb. That's the problem. You aren't trying to play convincing covers in a bar, so some overdrive and reverb is enough.
So it comes down to what you like to hear. Delay can really make things interesting. Go on youtube and look at some demos of delay pedals. Search "slap-back delay". Compressor can be critical for "sounding like the record" at times. But do you care if you aren't in a cover band? Again search for compressor demos. Same again with chorus. Chorus can be subtle or "swimmy" like the intro to Nirvana's come as you are. Of the three I listed I'd go delay if I had to pick one. I'd add the chorus if I was allowed a second. If you aren't snobby about analog, and for home play there's no need to be, I'd take a serious look at the Line6 DL4. I have analog delay as well (hard to beat closeout pricing on the BBE two timer), but the DL4 does everything. And very well.

Like with most things guitar, there is no best. There are only preferences. I buy pedals when I have a need for a sound that I don't have a technique or appliance for. Listen to what you feel you are missing and then buy that accessory.

Perhaps a delay pedal.

Is your pedal board for playing your electrics or acoustics?
A Phase90 (I prefer Phase95) is a fantastic add-on. If playing alone, a TC Looper is a great fun help. If playing acoustic, a compressor.

+1000000 on the Phase 90. THE sound of 70's rock funk and disco. Killer for chicken pickin' as well.

I use a chorus pedal the most these days.

I would also say a delay pedal would be a good choice. Then you can cover anything from rockabilly to psychedelic ambient stuff. Delay's are a lot of fun.

For a pedal board for 3 or 4 pedals go to thrift stores and grab a skateboard. Of course you can spend more and get a style or graphic you want. I found a green angry viper, still in original packaging for $4.99
Here's all you need to know to do it.

Do you think you could use a 2nd OD pedal? Sometimes it's great to boost that first one for solos. The EHX Soul Food is a great pedal and is inexpensive.

Polyphonic tuner pedals are mighty useful. I'd agree with delay or phaser for a third, although my most used one is a Big Muff Pi. Turn the Sustain way up, add a good Les Paul, and you can cop some great Gilmour lead tones or nice crunchy power chords. A higher gain distortion pedal like that is nice for some variety.

Probably a delay or chorus would be next, I suppose. I have a TC Electronics Flashback for delay. While extremely pricey I like the Strymon Big Sky for chorus. I have a Digitech Multi Chorus which works well for what it does.

Tuner. It may not be the most exciting answer, but it is probably the most practical. After that, compressor. My board has a tuner, a tube screamer and a compressor.
