Default you ever see this? gap in between neck and back

my friend has a 2002 810ce, and where the neck joins the back piece of rosewood, the heel of the neck, there is a gap. probably 1/64 of an inch or so. Like the neck is raised up a tad. does he need to take it in? the action is fine, everything is fine, but that gap disturbs me.
thanks.

The Taylor necks are BOLT on not glued in. The neck is NOT supposed to join the back piece. As you can see there is some filler ( white) material that seems to be missing either by age or just expasion( actually could be from the BACK drying out and pulling away creatng a larger gap. Pretty much all taylors if you look real close can tell that in this area there is a tiny gap but this does apear to be a little excessive.

If the action and set up has not changed at all since he bought it I would tend to say that some drying out has happened or that the gap was not real close on this from the start and the white filler material is coming out making it MORE noticable. The only way that the neck on these can move is by loosening the bolts.

If one is concerned email Taylor CS the pics and they will more than likely suggest taking it to an authorized service center and check the neck bolts to see it they are still tight .

ALL Taylors use filler material in the joint areas. Look closely at the fret board and the sound board you may be able to see a tiny bit there to. Like I said the necks are bolted on and the pockets are CNC machined to tight tolerences but still have some filler material in them.

Still contact Taylor and show them pics they will give suggestions. I would not say it is a serious issue. FAR from it. I know there have been some period in a few years where it seems that some of the CNC tolerances were not quite up to snuff.

looking closely, I can see tiny gaps where the neck joins the body at the fretboard. almost as if the neck isn't seated all the way down. maybe this was a looser tolerance guitar. my 810 is PERFECT, which is a 2003. the one with the gap is 2002.
i will contact taylor about it. thanks. i feel a bit better about it.

one thing to remeber is this time of year guitars can dry out easily and being too dry can also cause these gaps especially since you now mentioned the fret board gap. As the wood dries out a little too much these close tolerances WILL open up. Hey it`s wood! May want to try and humidify it to see what happens also.

If you talk to a CS agent I believe they can give you an email addy to send the pics and then they can see it as you talk to them.( unless you are on dial up) I know others have sent pics by email to them so when you call be sure to ask if you can email the pics. Take some of the fret board area too if possible.

There is supposed to be a gap on the NT necks (their bolt on necks with shims in them). 2 of my Taylors have 'em A K22-L30 and my new 914 fall limited. But it looks like the original owner of that 810 might have not known that or didn't like the look and tried to fill it with something. As mine does not have any filler.
