You are just paying for the name with Fender. G&L has much better features and quality for the money.

Fender does have better resale value. I should know because I've unloaded a bunch of Fenders that I have been dissapointed with over the years. G&L, Grosh, Suhr and Anderson make much better guitars than Fender.

I`ve been playing a G+L ASAT Classic for years. The feel is of excellent quality, the sound perfect. To my ears and hands. I don`t want to diss Fender. I tend to think of them as 2 different choices and that is good. The G+L`s imo have more of Leo`s input than modern Fenders. There is a great book " George and Leo". Pretty much covers the whole story.

I traded up from a late 80's Japanese Fender Strat to a G&L Legacy in the early 1990's. I love the G&L and highly recommend them (although the Tribute line is a newer, entry level line that I don't have experience with).

Besides the great pick-ups (Seymour Duncan in my vintage) and the improved bridge, there's also much better tone control. One knob is the bass and another the treble, and they work across all three pick-ups. Much better than the Strat that has one tone knob for the neck PU, one for the center and none for that trebly bridge PU. Then there's the better materials and workmanship vs. a standard Fender. It's a no-brainer for me.
