Default String Tension Question

Generally, is there a difference between tensions of a given diameter in acoustic strings compared to electric strings?

I ask because I have electrics on my Lowden (for better EBow response ). The day I got them , the store only had this particular brand of nickel -wound up to .049"- .012" (I beleive they are).
That is a little light for my setup and there is a bit of fret buzz (I'm not going to tweak the setup). So I'm wondering if it's okay to go heavier . The S-32 is a very sturdy beast but I don't want to hurt it.

Thanks,
Dar

String tensions vary by brand and design. Manufacturer specs including tension are typically found on their respective web sites.

Yes, best to check specific manufacturer - here is d'addario's - this might give some help, for this and other comparisons:

If it's nickel plated steel wound it would seem there is actually less tension that PB for given gauge and pitch as unit weight is less.

Don from D'Addario here - we also implemented a new string tension calculator that can help you create sets more to your specific needs - www.stringtensionpro.com

Turns out the 11-49 set I have on is D'Addario, the NYXL. They are very bendy , and I'm sure I'll be fine moving up a ga. or two . Thanks for the info !
