Gretsch Thinline Case Recommendations
I've got a similar post on Gretsch Talk but thought of some of the smart folks on AGF. After playing many hollows & semi-hollows over several months - and pursuing some dead ends - I've happily got a Gretsch G5620T-CB Electromatic thinline semi-hollow http://www.gretschguitars.com/produc...tno=2509100577 on layaway for another few weeks at my local guitar shop.
I want a hard case, so my shop ordered in a G6241FT which IMO fits in every way except it is clearly made for a guitar with a deeper body - apparently built for the G54XX-type instruments @ 2.75" depth vs my G5620 which is 1.75" depth. So the guitar sits at this weird angle inside the case. The G6241FT is about $100, a price I can live with. Don't want to spend much more than this. I visited with my guy at the shop and they'll order whatever works best. He thought perhaps a Gator after-market built for a 335 type guitar might be better. Thanks for your input.

Find out what he can do on a G6267 case before you go with anything else...

So, just to loop back around, I did get this resolved. Each of the six Gretsch and Gator hard cases I looked at were clearly designed for deeper body guitars than my thinline which to clear the top of the Bigsby has a total body depth of 3.125". SKB makes a thinline case, the SKB-35, which with a 3.75" interior lower bout depth came the closest.
Then the guy at my local shop mentioned that they got in some 3XX-type Epiphone cases and suggested I see how the Epi case fits. I really don't care what name is on the case. This is a black molded case the gray insides of which have been sculpted - including a platform in the lower bout section - to fit a thinline ES-3XX style guitar. Might be the one they make for their ES-339 line. Not sure. The G5620 snugged in and fit perfectly in every dimension. And it's much lighter than the 17 lb Gretsch G6241FT hard case I first had. (The guitar itself weighs over 8 lbs so lower weight case is good.) Same cost. 2 more layaway payments and I'm taking the G5620T-CB home!
