It's hard to give suggestions when we don't know what kind of banjo you are looking for and what style of music you want to pursue. There are so many possibilities. Tenor, 5-string, open-back, Bluegrass, claw-hammer, folk/roots music? I wanted to learn claw-hammer so I picked up an open-back in beautiful condition, cir. 1895, for $850. It is so much fun. Good luck and enjoy your search. ......Mike

As 00-28 mentioned, it is impossible to recommend anything specific without knowing what type of banjo music you intend. If buying used, get some help because banjos get tinkered with a lot and you need to know what you are looking at. On the bright side, experience has taught you well and getting a good banjo to start will make for a much better journey. $1500-2000 will get you an excellent quality instrument new or used that should not need upgrading as your abilities improve. Highly recommend Banjo Hangout for a source of info. Best.........Jack.
