O Brother Where Art Thou. Chris Thomas King plays a character inspired by Robert Johnson, and he is an excellent blues player as well. I love his version of 'Hard Time Killing Floor' in that movie. Lou Diamond Phillips learned to play for his role in La Bamba as Ritchie Valens. Hugh Laurie in the TV series House is also a blues player in real life, he has played guitar in a couple of episodes.

Ry Cooder has done many stellar soundtracks for films... one that is all acoustic is "The Long Riders"... David Lindley also plays a lot of the instruments; not just acoustic guitar, but a lot of it! One of my favorite film scores, along with Ry's work on the movie "Southern Comfort"; again, with Lindley and again, mostly acoustic if not all...

The Cohen Brothers are supposedly making a movie of Mayor or McDougal Street, the (auto)biography of Dave Van Ronk (with Elijah Wald's substantial contributions after Dave's death). That should have plenty of guitar and, if past Cohen Brothers films are any indication, should be a great movie. The book was a fun read.

The new Abc drama "Nashville" features a lot of acoustic guitar. Some real nice Martins and Gibsons are used. Not kid friendly but certainly an example of what you're asking about.

He has, indeed. Most folks know Crossroads. Long Riders, Alamo Bay, Paris Texas, The Border and others are also in his portfolio. Most are worth more than a passing listen. I went through a serious Cooder collecting phase about 25-30 years back and have a bunch on vinyl.

Grizzley, by Werner Herzog, accompanied by cellos.

Haunting, truly haunting soundtrack.

Pretty Amazing Grace by Neil Diamond. He has a couple of videos from that album called Home Before Dark. It is also nice to see the guitars that they used.

'Black Snake Moan'

Some nice acoustic and electric blues in that one.

Samuel L. Jackson actually learned to play guitar for that movie. He does a pretty good job.
