Default Need set-up help

I recently acquired a Seagull SM12 guitar that is in bad need of a set-up. The action is very high at the 12th fret, and seems decent at the first fret. I am not familiar with anybody in my area (North Central Arkansas) that does this type of work. Is this something that I can tackle myself, or should I seek out a professional.

Are there any good video tutorials?

Any help would be appreciated.

Check out http://thbecker.net/guitar_playing/g...p_page_01.html

I have followed this system, it seems to work well.

Becker's information is quite good indeed.

I'd suggest only that one can eliminate most of the "iteration" in cutting/filing nut slots using a set of feeler gauges as described here: http://charlestauber.com/luthier/Bas...r_Setup_1.html

for a start look to see if your saddle has a shim under it. the last 2 gulls' we had were fitted with shims. these were box fresh factory new guitars. if you have one remove it and see what that does for your action.
