Default Preston Thompson O18K

Preston Thompson is a really great old school builder who has a workshop setup in Oregon.

We got talking and I'm really honored he would even consider my suggestions for an O18-K repro complete with egg white filler...

That's about as pretty as can be! Never heard of egg-white filler, but I'm guessing as pore-filler, leveler before finish goes on. Would love to hear how this guitar sounds.

Love the look of this one. Probably my favorite guitar wood and size. Can't wait to see how it turns out.

Egg White was and still is used as a pore filler- I believe it was used in the older O18Ks.

I first heard about it from Julius Borges who kindly emailed me through the process.. you can see more of the egg white filler (on this very guitar) here:

Using egg whites is a very old method of sealing wood prior to finishing with shellac (French Polishing) in traditional Spanish lutherie. It is the only method of pre-finishing that also allows for the making of a Spanish tortillas with the yolks potatoes, onion and the finest olive oil once the work on the bench is complete....

Truly a wonderful technique! I always wondering if it would work on the darker tonewoods!
