Nice!

I played Lonnie Johnson's guitar once. At Bernunzio's in Rochester. Unlike you with Mississippi John Hurt's, I believe I actually took a little mojo OUT of the thing.

Love me some John Hurt. To me, Toby, that's the holy grail right there.

Forty + years ago, my first guitar teacher was a huge John Hurt. Within one year I was playing many of those very difficult numbers from tabs. It has been a wellspring of my playing now for more than four decades.

Thanks!

Dang I have a hat just like you're wearing in that video Toby somewhere in this house. Gonna dig it up and see if wearing it gets me any closer to playing like that! LOL

Toby, you looked pretty skinny back then. Those must have been your hungry years. You look my successful now.

Nice guitar, great playing!

2011 F-30 Std. here. Wonderful guitars.

All the recordings I have from Mr. Hurt were from the 20s. Probably ought to check out something from his rediscovery period.

This guitar has been greatly disputed that it not belong to him and this is a thread with great history about it. Also as you read this thread there are many post's by Neil Harpe and Mississippi John Hurts nephew with great detail.

See the other thread Rick. I'm not sure why folks so outside the circle insist on being so misinformed. I've had relatives of Hurt, as well as Tuft's best friend Izzy Young, personally verifying to me that it was one of Hurt's guitars. You can't get any closer to the source and truth than that.

The doubters have never seen or actually handled the guitar, nor have they spoke to those that have. Amazing. Seems to me that they just like to be armchair quarterbacks.

It the large scheme of things, not in the least. But every now and then I like to set the story straight. I can't even begin to tell you the BS I hear from people when they repeat some insane rumors about some the folks that I know personally. I shake my head and think 'what tabloid did you get that from?'
