Zissou,

If you find yourself back in the Colorado in the Cherry Creek area you have to try the Cherry Cricket. I love In-N-Out but, as you know, they have no joints here.

I always dug Bartley's Burger Cottage in Harvard Square in Cambridge, Mass. They had over 3 dozen kinds of burgers on the menu and the best onion rings in town. I wonder if it's still there anymore...

Many of these are great. I prefer to fire up the grill and make a fresh bacon, cheese, guacamole burger. However for those who are too young or untraveled you can't leave out White Castle. Being from Washington DC, anytime a road-trip was called for, a stop at Little Tavern for a dozen for road was as essential as gas.

I bet they took that Canadian guy that croaked off the menu, so, it's been around at least until then

We live in the Tropical Tip of Texas. In and around South Padre Island, there are a lot of great "local place" burger options. For chain choices, we have a BurgerFi, which I find pretty close to Five Guys.

Beach place burgers understand an appetite after some time on the water: a bleu cheese burger with bacon, an egg and hashbrowns on a half-pound burger... oh, I'm drooling.

Since I am the reason this thread got started anyway (Southern California) I feel compelled to add my two cents.

Best burgers I have ever had were from a little restaurant in Seagrove, NC called the Jugtown Cafe. Absolutely great handmade burgers and if you are foolish enough to order the double, you will need a mouth like a snake in order to be able to open your mouth wide enough to be able to take a bite. The double must have had close to a pound of beef on it. Sadly the Jugtown is now closed.

I think the next best has to be from 5 guys. The burgers are really good, but I think that they are over priced.

I like Steak and Shake, but I really go there for the fries.

All that being said, and although I really love a good, thick, juicy and beefy hamburger, if I am anywhere near a White Castle, I will go with the White Castle every time. Unfortunately the closest White Castle to me now is a 5 1/2 hour drive.

I like Five Guys, BGR (The Burger Joint), Elevation Burger, for chains. I still like Mickey D's for a quick burger.

Locally, The Piper's Kilt in Eastchester, Burke's here in Yonkers, and the restaurant at Sprain Lake Golf Course also here in Yonkers (and unfortunately the most expensive of the three.)

When you come to Minneapolis/St.Paul you must try the Juicy Lucy aka Jucy Lucy aka Bluesy Lucy - from The 5-8 Club, Matt's Bar, and The Blue Door.

Basically it is two thin patties formed around a core of cheese, so that the burger has a center of lava-hot cheese.

At 5-8 Club they have several variations on the theme.
Matt's is a dive, but an awesome Olympic-class dive and you get the basic burger and you better bring cash because they don't take plastic, but there is an ATM onsite with a $5 fee.
The Blue Door is great but it's popular with hipsters and the wait is too long for the price and quality.
I'm pretty sure The Nook, in St Paul, also has a Juicy Lucy, and it's a wonderful little diner.
All of the above mentioned restaurants have been featured on TV and have won multiple awards.

Expert Tip: Start on the fries first and wait about five minutes on the burger, if you value your soft palate at all.
