You sir, area crazy man. Crazy crazy crazy.

The primary benefit of locking tuners is there are no wraps around the tuning post. No wraps = no random unpredictable slop when strings are bent and released. Trem or not, it's definately an asset.

Beyond that it makes string changes a breeze. Pull the string straight through the post as tight as you can and clamp it down, turn the key about three times and you are in tune!

Worthwhile to me!

I agree that locking tuners speed string changes, but I've never noticed any improvement in tuning stability. Locking nuts, sure. But locking tuners, in my experience are questionable at best.

Your experience must be limited!

Three out of the 10 guitars I have, have locking tuners. There's a noticeable difference in tuning stability.

I'd rather stab myself in the forehead repeatedly with a fork than play a double-locker again. Gah!

"I hate it when THAT happens!"
But seriously, I'd second what Jeffrey said...locking tuning machines and what I'd prefer, 5 springs on the back! I'd also sttrrreeeeccccchhhhhh the strings before tuning up. Also a slotted nut does help...but as far as the nut "sauce" or rolling string trees, I'm more inclined to think those more as a marketing ploy.

My experience is waaayyyy limited!

I salute those of you who pay for nut sauce and such.

Jeffrey, you sure just beat the crap out of me! I apologize. You're right!

Locking tuners rule.

Cool

Regardless of how much I love New England humor I have to agree with Jeffery on this one. 2 of the 7 guitars I own have locking tuners and there is a noticable difference. As I said before a properly slotted nut is huge as well. Even bending will throw off a guitar when the nut is not properly slotted. I was never into nut sauce.

So....back on topic here , I found a MIM tele in mint condition for a couple hundred bucks, locally, so I figured that was a heck of a deal, and I'm picking it up tonight.

Make sure you do the usual, check out the neck, play it, all that.

I've played a lot of MIM Strats that were outstanding guitars (especially for the price), but I've also played quite a few that weren't so great.

Check it out first if ya can.

I picked up the tele yesterday, and quite honestly, it's the best $200 I've ever spent. The thing has incredible tone through my Line 6 amp, and so far it has no real problems staying in tune and doesn't have any intonation problems, to my ear.

It was even in better condition than I originally thought. Even though it's 5 years old, it looks brand new....and definitely looks better than pretty much any new guitar I've seen hanging on the wall at GC.

WOW! Considering that you have an Anderson guitar, and I'm assuming it has the Buzz Feiten Tuning System, this Telecaster that you have must be the "cat's meow"!
