I might want to get an amp, so would the Dean Evo be a sound option below 500 dollars?

I would go for a Strat but that's because i love them and i play many styles of music and the strat "cover's it all" ... and I'm very surprised that no one mentioned music man... they make great guitars and the neck's feel is unbeatable..... I got an used mesa boogie subway rocket for $350 ... much better than buying any new solid states for the same price...

Call this a shameless plug, but this guitar I have for sale here .....

http://www.acousticguitarforum.com/f...ad.php?t=80417

... is one of the best bang for the buck guitars that exist. And if you engage the coil splitter (splits the dual coils into singles) it's quite strat like on the bridge pickup and Tele like on the neck pickup. Even if you're not interested in mine - do yourself a favor and try one in a store somewhere before you make a purchase. Impressive instruments.

It plays like any other electric, using the magnetic seymour duncans. When using a "Y" cable you can send an acoustic signal (via the hex acoustic bridge) out to a separate device (amp, mixer, etc). They can then be blended to suit. Those signals come from the same 1/4" output. Finally, from the separate MIDI pickup you can use a 13 pin cable to connect to a MIDI module (like a Roland GR-33, VG-88, GR-20, etc). Then you can blend the electric with an acoustic as well as a piano or strings (or any other patch on the module). Usually - I connect a GR-20 to my computer and the guitar will trigger any soft-synth (Gigastudio, Kontakt, etc). They are a blast on stage. Blows people's minds sometimes when you play Fur Elise on a guitar!

Hope that explains it somewhat. Perhaps someone else can add to my description and make more sense!

What about a Rickenbacker! Definitely a cut above.

What do you guys got for me?
For a solid body its hard to beat a Tele or a Strat...even the low end ones offer a lot. I'd save on the guitar and spend on the amp, myself. For under a K you could come up with a Deluxe Reverb and a nice Strat or Tele (MIM, most likely) that would serve you well.
On the other hand, some of the Epiphone Les Pauls and dots are tremendous bargains and easily upgradeable as you see the need.
I have all of the above but with a old Twin...more fun and diversity than I deserve.

The best value is an American Series Stratocaster. You get a really solid guitar, excellent hardware, and good pickups. They are infinitely customizable (keep in mind I am not saying upgrade there). You can change them around at will but they are all the guitar you really ever need.

The 13 pin pickup is not really a standard midi pickup. I have on one of guitars a Roland GK-2A which works fine with my VG-88, but it wouldn't work using a synthesizer, for example.
