Yeah same here for soundhole pickup. Duncan, Markley, both of those I use now are pretty good at getting it to the amp or the pa. I just use the same amp I'm using for electrics, but I have bass and drums so I'm not going for uber schweet carmel-y upper mids and round treble punch or anything, just acoustic guitar on Loud.

What is a good cheap one out there that I can use until I can afford a decent one?

Seagull S6 Original
Fender CD-140 Mahogany
When we had a drummer and electric bass I used my K&K Pure XLR preamp. I found one used for $50. By the way. I plug into a Fender Hot Rod Deluxe.

I love my k&k thru a baggs paracoustic DI. The k&k came with the guitar and the para di is a loaner from a buddy. Prior to this setup I used an LR Baggs M1A in the sound hole of an old D18 with the cord hanging out. No holes in the guitar, good sound, cost around $100. The only issue with this setup was the cord occasionally(rarely) got in the way of strumming for a brief second.
