Default Reverand Gary Davis

In the middle of transcribing 'Lord I'll Be With You Always' by Reverend Gary Davis. I think I'll be teaching this one at Swannanoa Gathering Guitar Week this year. There are some wonderful twists and turns in it that make this song absolutely delightful.

cool. I have heard of the guy....
I can't make the guitar week...too far etc. etc. I'd like to but....time ain't on my side...
I wouldn't mind learning a tune though. Can you recommend one - intermediate.
curious as to what program you use to transcribe - the one in the pic.
I am looking to get started in this too.

thanks.

Depends on what you mean by intermediate. Do you fingerpick at all?

The program I'm using is Finale for transcribing and The Amazing Slow Downer for listening.

thanks. I will check them out.

I play mostly fingerstyle. I only know a couple blues tunes. Mississippi blues, Blues in A. thats it for blues.. I'd like to learn more. I learned and forgot a couple Kottke tunes. Working on Angelina by T.E. Learned a pic version of Nuages. S. Grossman. Renbourn. Jerry Reed - Jiffy jam.... Whiter shade of Pale fingerstyle arrg. .etc. etc. I like it all. I play them but not like they do

I just figured that was 'intermediate' - play but not well/perform/perfect.

Here's a great resource for checking his technique:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4fpPgo4Deo4

Track listing as follows:

0:30: Twelve Gates To The City
2:53: Samson and Delilah
5:50: Slow Drag / Cincinnati Flow Rag
7:30: Candy Man
9:48: Sally Where'd You Get Your Liquor From
12:25: Buck Dance (?*)
14:27: She Wouldn't Say Quit
18:05: Oh Glory How Happy I Am
21:15: I Hear the Angels Singing

* A youtube comment said this is Buck Dance, but it doesn't sound much like other recordings he made with that title.

Twelve Sticks is another great instrumental piece (played on 12-string, but it doesn't have to be):

good stuff. first time i really listened to him play.

played with thumb and first finger. That running base on the 6 string where he plays with the thumb was cool.

thanks JPR. and the song list too! I may look some of those up.
