Who makes a nice little parlor?
Somewhere in between the size of a Martin 2 and Terz/5. Looking for a nice unique travel guitar, more small builder (hence posting in the custom shop.) mods please move if this isn't the correct place.

I like to think that I make a nice little parlour. 9 1/4" upper bout, 13" lower. Not sure if that fits the size you're looking for. Not very expensive either. A few reviews on this forum as well of my work in general...

John Allison makes a really sweet (but powerful) small guitar. I prefer the single 0 to the parlor, but that may be bigger than you're wanting. His prices are still pretty reasonable for a small shop custom builder.
http://www.allisonguitars.com/guitar22.html http://www.allisonguitars.com/guitar39.html I also like Big Hollow guitars. The parlor I played was amazing sounding but the neck was a bit too vintage/chunky for my tastes. (Not a problem if you have a custom build.) Good luck with your quest -there are so many amazing builders out there now! |

Mike Baranik makes an unbeleiveable good sounding and easy playing true parlor, 12.25" lower bout:
And, Laurent Brondel makes an unbelievably good sounding 0 size, 13.25" lower bout: Have fun. Steve

I played a Baranik parlor over the weekend that was oh so nice. If I didn't currently have something commissioned, it would have been very tempting.

I've had this guitar at my house for the last 6 weeks. It's a "Grand Parlor" built by John Osthoff, which is a bit deeper and wider than a parlor, but still in that neighborhood. John offered to the loan the guitar to me (what an offer!) after I became enamored with the guitar at HGF. It's really exceptional in every way - sound, playability, workmanship.

Yeah, that's one beautiful guitar, beautifully played. And I think Steve Kinnaird still has one of his Healdsburg parlors available. You should email him.

Mighty Fine Guitars (no connections) has a PSR Size 2 (also no connections) in stock that is just killer. One of the best sounding small guitars I've ever played.

+1 to the Bourgeois Piccolo parlor. These are modeled after the guitars made by CF Martin for the Oliver Ditson music emporium of Chicago. The reknowned master luthier William Cumpiano also makes a version, seen here:

We do make a parlor based on an old Martin #1 shape. It's big enough to deliver sound when needed, but also excels at a delicate touch. I'm glad you liked our video. Here's the link to our Healdsburg parlor in another part of the forum.
