Default Pederson Custom Guitars - Garden Inlay

This is an inlay for a customer guitar that I will be showing the progress of here on the AGF. I am not primarily an inlay artist, I am a professional Luthier. I just happen to be able to do stuff like this if the customer wants it.

Otherwise I can build a small herd of guitars (without inlay) in the time it takes for me to finish something like this.

This drawing is in a rough state and I'd suspect most inlay artists might not even show this, but what the heck - I got the green light from the customer and I decided to put it up. I'll show some finished pics of the inlay/neck. There will be other elements added to this inlay as I get this part completed.

This guys girlfriend is a model and we used her pose. The tricky part is going to be the reflection. Since this fellow saw my other Garden inlay - he wanted his own, so I've decided to just make each new Garden concept different - rather than duplicating one inlay.

I also have an new build coming up that I will be posting. Its an EVA-JM re-design. 15.5" lower bout, center sound hole, and 19.5" body length. Fairly standard "SJ" size. If anybody were to become interested in that I could accommodate personal requests.

Thanks for having a look.

Kevin.

Haha, hey Mike, you took the words right out of my mouth.

It will be a cool inlay Harv...with each one I try to get better and more creative. This is a good concept too, to show lots of colors and creative ideas, similar to a vine, yet not replicate the same one each time. Its something I'm going to build on.

I'm getting some good "cutting" done today...should have some pics by this evening if I finish up early.

Hope you're all enjoying a beautiful day in the US. I know I am.

Peace.

Kevin.

Hopefully it won't the same as with a girlfriend's name tattoo. A guarantee for a break up.

There is another thread on the AGF about important tools that luthiers use and I just wanted to add a picture of a tool that is probably my most important tool. I cut inlays with this and I can really cut a clean rosette channel with this thing too. I have to put a sharp blade in and then it will really cut them clean.

Haha...just kidding.

Ok, here is the snake in a tree.

Here is the 'model' and you can see how the parrot will come together.

and then with them laid out on the pattern.

I'll do all the finer detail by engraving etc.

More later. Its about time to go see some High School football. Peace.

Kevin.

I got a little more cut today. Its slow going. This is the rock on the lower edge of the stream.

notice her fingernails are gold mother of pearl.

and this is a panned out view. You can kind of see some of the colors in the parrot, the pattern paper is still on there but its coming along.

Have a good evening.

Kevin.

Awesome inlay design Kevin. Can't wait to see how the womans reflection is done. I can almost hear the parrot squaking "Don't do it"!

Your special tool gave me a belly laugh.

Oh yeah!!!...However, in this circumstance...when this guy 'will be rockin' (on the guitar), then you can 'come knockin' (probably to tell him to turn it down a notch or two ).

Funny, she will...and the rest is HIStory. The womans reflection is going to be tricky. If I can't convincingly do it, I'll abandon it and do something else there. But I think I have some ideas that will work.

Hey, don't laugh, that thing will 'book-match join' two pieces of German spruce like no-ones business...Just ask Jason Kostal

Thanks Orfeas...its going to look killer awesome when I'm done. I'll engrave detail into her hair, her eyes, lips, the leaves on the tree, the flower details. I'm going to have several materials in this inlay including, white MOP, gold MOP, re-constone, wood, and "metal". I'm actually learning as I go. I want this to be a really nice inlay, so I'm a sponge for learning and trying new ideas etc, and when guys are paying big bucks for stuff like this, its my job to deliver.

Have a great Sunday fellas.

Kevin.
