Just a word of caution ... if you cannot accurately control the guitar's humidity level between 40% - 55% RH then you may experience some wood movement. Zircote is a great tone wood and drop dead gorgeous to look at ... but ... as you have already discovered it can have a propensity to crack when its is outside of its RH range.

Thanks for the warning. We are beginning to have an upswing in humidity here in Louisville. I don't think it will be a problem while in the shop. He does monitor it the best he can. As soon as I have the box glued together (hopefully in a couple of weeks), I will probably get a case for it and store it in the case at the shop. Again, thanks for your input...

I'm pretty anal about watching my guitars closely at home. I'll be sure to be even more vigilant about this one.

I've had the same experience teaching fire-arms. Women with no pre-conceived notion that they are Wyatt Earp are much easier to teach than men.

Really? I'll bet that not a lot of people know that. Thanks for the heads up. It certainly rules Zircote out for me...(not that I'm in the market).

If I could get a piece of Zircote like this one, I would be more than happy to figure out a way to keep her at peace with the proper humidity. It's going to look almost as nice as my Walnut

It's funny you mentioned walnut. I am thinking of purchasing a sinker redwood top and keeping it for a future Redwood / Walnut build. I believe my friends at a local guitar shop would allow me to store it in their humidity controlled banjo shop.

Would you mind posting a pic of your Walnut?

Check out my guitar website on the link below ... it's finished!!!

Woody has aked me if he can use it to do some recording for his website and another project he is working on, so it should be shipped around the end of May, beginning of June, whenever he is finished.

I have been playing for about 2-1/2 years now so I still have a ton of learning to do. But, when it arrives I will play it and post my comments on how it looks, sounds and plays.

I am going to be looking for hints on what to name her ... check out "The Girl" in the final photo #2.

I am feeling very giddy

Sinker redwood. Hmmm.... Where'd you get that idea?

Hey Mark! Great post! You're right, this class is a blast! Good sanity maintenance too.

Default Updates...

I've got some new pictures.

Fitting the top and sides...

And Fitting the back and sides....

An interesting picture of the top...

The side braces have been glued and carved...

I have some more carving to do on the top and a couple more braces to attach.

Hopefully, I can glue the box together in a few weeks.

Thanks for looking...

I do have to give you credit...your redwood top is beautiful. I wouldn't hvae considered it if I hadn't noticed you working on the top.

You should post a build thread here.

Thanks Mark! The woods for your back and sides are rather breath taking too!
Keep in mind folks, those braces are all hand carved by Mark with a wood chisel. No pre formed stuff here!

I've tried to post pics of mine, but My dial up won't let it happen. It times out before photo bucket gets anything.

David, If you bring in a disk of your pictures, start a build thread, I'll post em for you.

Your guitar is beautiful. I think the folks here would love to see your work.
