Default 1/4" and XLR Output Wiring Question

I have a 1996 Gibson J185 that I got second hand. I was told that it had a pickup system installed. When I got the guitar I found out that the original pickup/preamp system was replaced with a Fishman Prefix Pro. Unfortunately it was wired to an endpin jack rather than through the stock jack plate that consists of a 1/4" jack and an XLR output mounted right next to each other. The connections to the stock jack plate were simply cut.

I'd like to be able to use the XLR output so that I can plug directly into a soundboard. My question is, is there any way I wire the XLR output into my Fishman? I was thinking I could splice the leads to the 1/4" jack into the XLR. Another option I considered was connecting the XLR to the hot 1/4" jack.

Hopefully the above makes some sense. Any thoughts input would be greatly appreciated.

TIA!

Sherm
