Default New Martin Day...and a big decision...

I've been wanting an OM-28 for years. I grew up a huge John Mayer fan and always wanted a guitar like this. But, for some reason I just never pulled the trigger on one. I had a nice 000-28, but the OM-28 was always the one I really wanted. So, I bought this guitar from a forum member and it is a beauty. These are his pics because I don't think I could really do them any better.

I originally bought this with the intention of selling my 814ce, but now I'm on the fence about which to sell. I am DIGGING the OM, but in comparison the 814ce is deeper sounding and sweet all it's own.

I thought about keeping both, and may end up doing that, but really feel I need to make a decision. WOW TOUGH!!!

Nice. Play them for a while and see how they settle in. Time will tell. Congratulations.

Congrats, Shades. The EIR on that OM-28 is especially nice.

Agree with Paul here... no need for the rush. Play them both for a while and be sure. And lose the guilt over owning more than you deserve

Cool. A classic Martin vs Taylor choice. And the Taylor has the sweeter voice.

Let us know the outcome.

Every single OM-28 I have ever touched made me happy. That's a beaut, play it long time in good health!

If I had to give a tonal edge right now....well...I don't think I can yet haha. The Taylor is deeper, that about all I can say right now.

The OM sounds amazing thought...definitely sweet!

(D18 beats them both!!! haha)

I was faced with a similar decision with a Collings OM versus a Taylor 814CE. I had the 814CE Deluxe with the arm rest bevel and the Adirondack bracing. The Taylor was a huge, deep sounding guitar and the power and depth of bass made it very seductive.

I made demo video's of both guitars side-by-side playing the same song so I could listen back. I also had a friend play them for me so I could be on the listener side of the sound hole.

Long story short; I returned the Taylor and kept the Collings OM. No, it wasn't quite as deep, but the midrange complexity, projection and sweetness was more compelling. I don't miss the Taylor, but I do respect and admire all that a great Taylor like your 814CE brings to the table.

Fun problem to fun. In my circle, we call these; "luxury problems."

Your OM-28 is stunning! Great guitar. IMO, the OM-28 more classic and versatile than many guitars. Definitely a great instrument.

Oh yeah, ...and you have a D-18.

Your observations align with mine thus far! I think the big thing for me (if I do decide to sell one) is that I need to decide if I want two guitars that are similar in sound, or two that are completely different.

My D-18 ain't going anywhere!

John Mayer would want you to keep both.

Keep them both.

If anyone give you any static about it, tell 'em WE said it was the right thing to do.

Congrats!

+1 on Groberts' suggestions below. I'd keep both if that was an option.
