Another early 1970 model. Again, if you could find the internal date code I'd appreciate it.

Lower bout bass side, either 41227 or 4L227. There's a separate standalone number 2 in the area.

I'm guessing you're missing a 4 at the beginning. 44.12.27 would be December 27, 1969, which is when the sides where made. The guitar was probably built in January 1970.

Sounds about right. I bought it new shortly before my marriage in 72. Still have the guitar and the wife.

Lots of stuff about the newer guitars. They are wrong about the 6 & 7 digit serial numbers from the 60's & 70's. The serial numbers and internal date codes I have prove they are sequential, the first digit isn't the year.

On second though, is there any chance it's 45.2.27?? That would fit better with the couple I have in that area.

I'd guess early 1971. The closest I have is my FG-110 with 1463895 & 45.12.18. December 18, 1970.

Again, I only have 1 set of serial numbers/date codes in 1971 and none in 1972. If you could find the date code, that would help tremendously.

With all the serial numbers I've been finding all over the internet I've expanding the scope of my search even further.

I'm working on finding when they changed from one label to another. I'm focusing on the early Taiwan models at the moment. Specifically the Tan Label with nothing but the model number on it, and the Black Label.

The Tan Label with only the model number looks to be a bit rare. I've only found 3. The Black Label is less rare but I haven't found enough to have a clue when they actually started and ended.

If anyone has a 70's Yamaha FG with these labels and could send a pic of the label and the 2 serial numbers I'd really appreciate it.

I'm still looking for the early Nippon Gakki serial numbers and the important Date Codes.

I have what I think is an early red label nippon gakki fg 180 that has the reinforced neck truss rod cover. The serial code on mine is 702348. I'm pretty certain there isn't a date code on either of the sides though, I've looked all over the inside with a flash light and absolutely can not find one.

Dave, this is truly great work! I need to go back and read through the entire thread, but this level of archiving will be helpful to many.
