Default Give Credit for Inspiration When It's Due

Aloha Ryosuke,

Beautiful rosette concept & craftsmanship on a Jeff Elliot carved/solid wood design.

Default No Implication At All

Aloha FLRon,

The answer to your first question is Yes. And I have given Martin credit whenever my guitars copied any part of their designs.

People here give credit when they copy Linda Manzer's Wedges, Jason Kostal's "Stained Glass" Rosettes, Novak's scales, or Ervin's bridge or Modified Dreadnaught designs.

But Jeff Eliot's carved rosettes were unlike anything else in the steel-string acoustic guitar world before he began doing it in the 80's. I just wanted to ensure that others looking at Ryo's rosette design here knew where it came from, since it wasn't forthcoming from him. Not insinuating anything, only clarifying.

Most people's comments were with respect to the immaculate technique rather than the rosette design itself so much. Mine certainly was.

The rosette is magnificent in both execution and design. The world would be a lesser place if Ryo was not practicing his art as freely as he does. I know it can be a point of vigorous debate, but I am a proponent of the Free Culture Movement that posits that copying is not only, not theft, it is not unethical.
In fact it is essential.

Thank you Jobe san.
It took about 8 hours only to carve out when I did for the first time.
I practiced over and over and now it takes about 80 minutes.
As you said, it might be kind of Zen.
Haha. You're right. I actually do this listening to Bach cello suits, though:P

I was inspired by old lute rosette design, Ervin's carving work and Mr.Elliott's carving work.

Yes, you're right.
I can never re-do carving once I carve.
Thank you very much. I hope you enjoy this thread

I understand what you mention.
I thought almost everyone know Mr.Elliott's work here since he's based in the U.S.. If you felt something bad, I apologize.
Although, there're lots of "inspired" design out there like Michi's original rosette design and Sergei's original solid wooden ring rosette.
I'm not sure I had to mention about that I should have mentioned that I had been inspired by old lute rosettes, Ervin's rosettes, and Mr.Elliott's rosettes.

Ples, to tell the truth, when I designed my rosette about 10 years ago, I actually didn't know Mr.Elliott's design.
Here's my early design patterns.

And I had practiced and modified the design over and over since then, and I finally reached the current design about 5 years ago because my design motto is "Design of Subtraction." I tried to simplified as much as I could.
I was surprised when I first saw Mr.Elliott's rosette after I had designed my own....
In my opinion he is definitely the first guy who designed the pattern but actually mine is a bit different. Each triangles which is carved out is knot Right-angled isosceles triangle. The widths of the wooden ring and strips are way different.

Oh, I am sorry about my poor English...
Anyways I am glad to hear your opinion.
There're must be some people who have the same opinion as yours.

Sometimes it's kind of hard for me to try to do business in the U.S. but I think I learned something here. I appreciate it.

I hope you enjoy this thread. Thank you very much again.

Really like the graceful neck transition down by the heel.

Beautiful guitar all around!
