No police--I'm curious what the lineage / attribution is. People call out these details all the time. I love the Sexauer shape, FWIW. It's my favorite thing about Bruce's guitars, and very distinctive.

I believe Tom Doerr uses a similar cutaway shape, and it is one that I really like as well.

I'm from central PA and did not know about this Custom Guitar show. When is the 2018 one?

Hey everyone, This is Tyler. I have been pretty busy prepping for woodstock, then catching up on repairs at work, getting another couple builds in the spray booth, and also trying to get things together for Thanksgiving. Now that things are settling down, I finally had a moment to catch my breath, sit down and get the final pictures of this build together. Thanks for looking!

Paul was kind enough to record a demo of this guitar himself. That video can be found here:

My cutaway shape has been in the works for awhile (obviously not as long as Bruce's). I was actually referencing an electric shape I built 4 years ago. I had always liked the tighter radius/ almost kinked cutaways that some electrics utilize. I'm not sure exactly what electric guitars I was referencing at the time but I came up with this curve and went with it:

Kinda rough, I know, but I was still figuring things out. From there I decided I wanted a different, more modern take on the acoustic cutaway that did not fall into the same vein as the Somogyi camp aesthetic. I decided to reference my electric guitar and try and mimic that idea. I originally wanted to bend the point and do a sharp Venetian but as you can probably imagine that was not easy. I managed to do it successfully with some scrap mahogany but I realized I would never feel comfortable bending rare wood in the same way.

So from there I decide the flourentine would be the way to go and a few years later this Cocobolo R.1ca is the first time using the design.

Thanks for the reply and all the details!

That's a gorgeous guitar. I'd love to hear it.

This guitar was one of my favorites at Woodstock. The sound definitely matches its great looks. After meeting Tyler and playing this guitar, he is on my short list of builders for my next custom build.
