Thanks Mike
I like the eye analogy. The radial zebrawood and the koa does indeed look eye like. (I feel sure you were referencing the mineral tigereye, but that comment got me thinking anatomically). To compound the effect, when the sound hole is cut that large black center will make it look like a tiger's eye on drugs. (Dilated, yes?) Of course the drug i am referring to is Tropicamide.

Smile Rosettes...

Hey Gang

If you are in love with this rosette, it will be available, as I have fallen hard for the Celtic Knot rosette on Steve's JK129!

After making John chase the elusive perfect burl rosette in my minds eye, I played Steve's Padouk 000-12c, and fell for the Paua.

In the 70s I lived on the bluff above the ocean in Del Mar Ca. There were three piles of aboriginal abalone shells from the ages past on our property. Each pile about the size of a VW bug! 20/20 hindsight... dang!

My current plan is to have John make this one semi-matching 128. Different woods, but similar appointments...

Meanwhile, both 128 and 99 continue to knock my socks off and draw rave reviews from my listeners, too!

John has been very accommodating and easygoing, as always! Bless you JK!!!

Cheers!

Paul

John, One more question on Paul's build. What's the story on the Cantilevered fingerboard? I remember you talking about doing one some time ago...never heard for sure if you have or not. So, have you done one? If so, what does it look like (pics??) and what is the purpose?

Maiden voyage of the cantilevered fingerboard. The whole idea is to free up the top in the upper bout. The fingerboard extension will float above the top. The interior block will be somewhat reduced and will be braced off against the sides with carbon fiber rods, a la Tim McKnight design, so that the top will not be depended on to support the block or the neck heel. The Top will then be braced as a whole to vibrate and make a joyful noise.

Smile A Joyful noise!

Indeed! And it will make a Joyful noise, I have no doubt.

John has agreed to paint some hot rod flames on a bit of the one carbon rod which will be easily seen thru the sound port! This one will be a Hot Rod for sure...

All the best to everyone this blessed season! Play on and share the Love!!!

Cheers

Paul

Hello Paul,

Just a quick hijack here....I know you play a lot at nursing homes. My mother is in one in Minnesota and they just had a Christmas party and a fellow came in and sang Christmas carols and played guitar. She loved it and it made her day, so Thank You for doing this on a regular basis, I know it makes a difference in their lives.

Merry Christmas to you and thank you again.

Hijack over....

Smile Thanks Tom!

Thanks Tom!

I encourage everyone to find a hospital, nursing home, senior center, etc. And go play for these folks. The **** TV will be there when you leave!

You will never be so valued in a bar or restaurant! These folks really LISTEN!

And the older ones usually had musical education. They do NOT equate live music with a DJ or Karioke... they will be stoked, and they will appreciate that you are on their side in their struggles, whatever they are!

Blessings to all

Paul

Holy Moly John!!! You have outdone yourself. That Padouk is making me crave bacon... the binding is really beautiful, as is the entire guitar.

Yum!!!

Smile Bacon

Hey John

I do not eat much bacon, but when I do I will have an extra strip for you!

If you haven't ordered the case for mine, please do so soon, as Ameritage ships so sloooooowly. Tan and green please. It gets hot hereabouts!

Man that 12/12 is about as beautiful an axe as I have ever seen!!!

Nice going, and congrats to Bob

Cheers and super Yule...

Paul

Shazam, bro...that's beautiful! It makes me itch to work with my set of that Calico Padauk.
And some nice picture-taking to boot.
