Thanks JR - not sure yet, I haven't really explored the existing ones yet. I'll think I'll try those out first and learn what sounds I like better.

The last two times I did a repair this invasive, I figured no one would ever want my Frankenstein monster when I was done patching it together. The one was my Martin 000-15 which was indescribably beautiful to play but was cosmetically very imperfect. I thought about selling it and it got scooped up very quickly by a new owner who is loving it.

The next one was a nylon string that was severely damaged. I was going to use it as a nylon beater and someone needed an orphaned body so I let it go before really finishing it.

soooo......I can't imagine anyone will want this when I'm done, so I tell myself this will be *MY* guitar (which makes me happy), but....I've told myself that twice before.

So I had to make a custom "patch" on my ad-hoc bending iron. Second time I've used it and it came out great. This is on the body behind the tailpin - mostly just to seal the joints - the wood there is very thick.

It has a complex S-curve shape you can't see from the outside (the cavity is routered into a solid block of sapele - remember this is an electric below the soundboard.)

It was like building a ship in a bottle. Really pleased with it seeing it in place.

Thick layer of GluBoost fill-n-finish flexible high viscosity CA glue - really great stuff for drop fills and leveling (which is what I needed)

Interesting thing about this guitar's construction:

The soundboard is a braced acoustic construction. Everything below that is a chambered solidbody electric in construction. Truly a hybrid of design.

Thank you for mentioning Gluboost Fill-n-Finish. I've been looking for something like that for awhile.

Seriously - this stuff is the real deal. I love this stuff. I've used straight CA (of varying viscosities), raw clear lacquer, thickened lacquer, etc.

This stuff works so well I'll never go back and wish I would have had this a long time ago.

I had to make some seriously large fills because of an unevenness with the damaged wood. Because its so "thick" over the fill spot you can see the internal layers because of some refraction differences. Basically shiny areas underneath the top finish surface layer. But, that's not a flaw of this material - simply a side-effect of me having to go really thick over a large area.

One problem I am having (side-effect) is my throat is irritated because every night for four days in a row I've used a lot of CA, a lot of gluboost, a lot of accelerant and bitterant laced air duster.

I need to hook up a dedicated ventilation system. For normal drop fills, you could use this stuff at the kitchen table (while eating breakfast) with no bother. But, I am doing a massive repair job so it's a little on the extreme end.

nearing completion......the wood was severely damaged so its note cosmetically perfect but I'm happy with it so far, especially given the degree of damage

This angle is the best view - you can see the repaired seams under different lighting.

Wow, awesome work. Looks great.

Gluboost Fill-n-Finish, huh. I've never heard of it before. I'm actually working on a repair myself now at the moment (someone sat on a guitar and it knocked the x braces loose, and half of the top cracked and completely separated)....

...after seeing your repair here I'm not making any excuses to not get mine looking just as good.

I'm really excited to check that stuff out too. I've always wondered if there was a better option than lacquer for drop-filling, or just plain superglue. Thanks a million for sharing about that, I've gotta check that stuff out ASAP, might even be able to help me out with the guitar on the bench right now.

Again, great job, very impressive!

Got my guitar all together and have been playing it this evening. I'm waiting for my J Pearse armrest to arrive then I'll take final pictures, post and NGD and a mini-review.

Wow that's really impressive fazool. That's the kind of thing I've been trying to get good at for many many years. I don't think I could pull off such and invisible fix as good as that. Good job!
