Default Doerr Guitars SBAIC Fan Fret Adi with old growth Brazilian

I've been meaning to post pics of this build I'm doing for the Santa Barbara show but I'm just now coming up for air to do so. This build is my Solace Select model fan fret 26-25". Features Adirondack spruce with some old growth Brazilian rosewood and will also have some micro abalone appointments. I'm looking forward to the show and hope to see some of you there.

Hi Tom,
Glad to see you're posting a new thread. This sounds like it'll be a fine build! I'm looking forward to seeing it progress.

I know Frank Smith is tickled pink with his Doerr Fan Fret! I'm sure this one will be outstanding like everything else you do!

Thanks for posting on this one Tom! Will follow along and enjoy the ride. At some point I'll catch up with you and hear the story of how that beautiful Brazilian came your way!
Enjoy the day!

The last Adirondack and Brazilian fan fret Tom made was incredible! Can't wait to see this one. Big fan of the rosette!

Thanks everyone for the comments. Sevenpalms it was because of Frank's guitar which I loved so much that it inspired me to build this one for the show. It's pretty much the same as Frank's except it's a Solace model instead of my Legacy. Diamondave I really did have to look at the Brazilian to see where I wanted the template. I end up going for the straighter grain look and keep the dark marks out. I also have a flitch set thats a bit smaller where I can put the dark parts in the lower bout. Here's more pics of the rims together along with the rosette made.

Tom, that rosette seems to have a textured, 3-D surface: is that just an artifact of the photography, an unfinished state that will be smoothed out under finish, or possibly your intent or design? I'm hoping for the latter - I think it looks tremendous as it is!

Thanks for the comment. To answer your question yes I designed it with the intent of giving it more texture. I feel adding the ebony and micro abalone with the rosewood gives it that affect. I did a rosette similar to this one last year with just rosewood and micro pearl. As much as I liked the one with just rosewood and pearl I felt by adding the ebony and the micro abalone it gave it another dimension. I'm very happy with the results. Once the finish is applied it will add that pop to it that I'm looking for.

Thanks Tony, DD, Justonwo! Tony I'm certainly looking forward to seeing your guitars and you as well. It will be here before you know it. I'm progressing well on the guitar. Tomorrow I'll be installing the binding. Here's a few more pics.
