Default 12th fret J45, LG and Steiny2 SOME MUSIC by Sacha Stefanovic, luthier, Dinard, FRANCE

Hi to all,

New to the forum that a friend, Quentin, advised me, I'd like to introduce myself first before dealing with the subject of this thread: my two first orders (that's why called it "two real acoustics").

I was a school director here in France for almost 16 years and buit some electric guitars for me or did some repairs on electrics for friends... Then, I started to listen to the Everly Brothers and after having seen Morten Harket (from A-HA) on stage with an acoustic guitar made by Robert Steinegger, I really wanted "that kind of guitar".
A well known established luthier near Paris, Patrick Querleux, who knew my electric work, pushed me into the direction of starting an acoustic build. It was in 2009 and I must confess, from that moment, I got the virus...
Last year, tired of my "school work", I quit and started my lutherie business in Dinard, on the french west coast.
Should you want to see my place, my internet site that I just try to keep up in date, can be found here below
www.stefanovicsacha.fr

So, back in 2009-2010, I gave birth to my Steiny copy in October 2010, just in time when A-ha toured France but unluckily, wasn't able to show them the guitar.
So, here's some pics for you: the guitar that started all...

with a dear friend...

People said that it sounded (still sound) real good. Sitka top, Indian Roesewood b&s, Honduran rosewood fingerboard & bridge... Gave me confidence in keep on going...

Then for me who hadn't not an OM and my nephew's birthday whose name's Leo, built two OM: adirondack top with lacewood b&s and bearclaw sitka with padauk for him...

Then I wanted a gypsy guitar, but didn't like that much the traditional gypsy sound, so tried an X braced gypsy: redwood top, tasmanian blackwood, cocobolo fingerboard-bridge and binding...

Also, built two other acoustics (not finished yet): a SJ200 style with sitka top and 3 pieces Huiguerilla b&sides (also called Sacha's rosewood... my first name)...

Had to edit my previous message for I sent too many pics...
the second part goes like this

... And an Advanced Jumbo style with alpine spruce and cocobolo rosewood b&s and tasmanian blackwood binding

Well, I hope I didn't bother you with all the pics.

So, now in my "new" real shop in Dinard with its blue wooden wall...

... my two first real orders:one jumbo "dread size" with sitka and flamed maple and one super jumbo "slope shouldered" with sitka and rosewood b&s. Both of them will have flame maple 2 pieces neck.

The rosewood guitar has its body already finished.

Working on the maple top now...

I've realised that a lot of you post pics of the "work in progress". I could have too but there would have been too many to catch up with all of you who are there on the foru for longer than me.
So, do you want some more pics, of the inside, of the bracing or whatever? Let me know and I hope you'll enjoy following my work.

Kind regards till my next post.

Very nice looking guitars! Welcome to the Acoustic Guitar Forum. I remember seeing the Everly Brothers play live when I was a child. And they indeed played similar guitars to these at the show:

I look forward to seeing more of your work.

Hello,

Thanks to all of you for your kind words!

So, as far as the first "rosewood-sitka" goes, here's a picture of its advanced scalloped braces

And I also almost finished its 25.34" fingerboard (radiusing soon to come)

For the second guitar, the maple one, here's the rosette

Anf if you don't mind, though it's not a real acoustic, a client asked for a semi-hollow "small 335" like (closer to a 339),

So after the cheesy holes

and the saw, the serious stuff began

Wth a personnal project besides (a semi hollow rosewood neck Tele, with a rosewood top and ovengkol hollowed body, bigsby and TV Jones pup)

Instead of shaping the maple top and back, I decided to use the 15" radius dish to shape the mahogany core

One side finished

When both sides were radiused, I took care of the top

And glued some lightly figured veneer on the mahogany side

PS If you look carefully (and closely) on the right side of the picture, you could see the maple neck of the first rosewood acoustic...

Bye!

Keep the pictures coming! I find watching the semi-hollow electric builds as fascinating as the acoustic ones (I wish I could play electric better than I do). It's a radically different approach.

Hi to all,

Sorry for having not posted before but the place I settled in is also my home. And I have things there to do. So I'm half luthier and still half carpenter and painter and bricklayer and... God knows what...
Anyway, here's some pics of my lutherie work. I can't post pics of all the things I done in between though I have them on my computer cause it would take too long to upload...

So, I build the O'Brien jig for the dovetail, and used it for the rosewood-sitka super jumbo box

And just for imagination, the guitar to be...

As far as the maple jumbo acoustic goes, I worked on the fingerboard...

And finished the headstock overlay too...

Nothing more for it as I worked on the ES...

Glued the neck, and fingerboard too. And worked on the headstock overlay

...

I also worked on my personal rosewood Tele

Went for a danish oil finish as I could add nitro on it should I need a change...

And today, I just CNCed my neckplate for it

Otherwise, let me introduce Richard to you. He's taking a course with me: he'll be building his own guitar. We went for an OM.
Richard choosing his wood...

I had some sitka, some engelman, some austrian moonspruce for tops. Some mada rosewood, quilted maple, oregon myrtle, some walnut for back and sides...

He chose some Austrian from J.Berkmann for the top with some herringbone and some indian rosewood for the back with a zipper backstrip. Richard Backstriping...

Done

He also started the rosette

And so as to not let him walk that OM road alone, I'm also starting one for myself: Berkman soundboard with madagascar rosewood

And another Steinegger Everly Bros-J185 to come with malaysian blackwood and moonspruce too...

Really love the silking on these moonspruce tops...

See you soon...

Bonjour Sacha, et bienvenue!

Mon père est né à Dinard en 1921, et ma famille a vécu à Houlgate en Normandie. Petit monde!

Quand nous visitons la France, ensuite je vais regarder pour vous.

Ciao!
