New Website... Input Needed!
Getting a grip on higher costs everywhere I decided to save a few bucks each month by creating and maintaining my own website. Whew... after learning the intricacies of ftp and web design and far too many hours at the keyboard I think I have it figured out and my NEW handmade, so to speak, web site is up and running!
I would appreciate a critique of the website by you grand people of the AGF. I am sure it needs some tweaking but quite frankly I am tired of looking at it. I would like some input before I send out any public announcement. Soooooooooo if you have the time and are inclined please check it out through the link in my signature below and give me some feedback. Let me know where it needs modification. You don’t need to be web savvy, although that would be helpful as long as you don't burst my bubble and tell me I am hack (I already know that), I am looking for input from everyone and anyone. To help to celebrate my brand spanking new website I am offering my CD Borderline Normal for $10 including shipping to any AGF member. This will also allow me raise some funds for the next project which I can now devote my attention too... Finally!! I can feel my fret time increasing already. One good thing about all this web design stuff is that it sure takes your mind f G.A.S. If you would like to take me up on this offer send me a paypal to my email address (james AT jamesfilkins DOT com) or send me an email and I can provide you with an address to mail a check. Thanks ahead of time!!! |

Wow, that's a lot of work, pretty good for a first website!
I do a fair amount of web design (both for my site, and at my job). I usually try to keep things as simple/uncluttered as possible. I'm particularly allergic to things that move, like the scrolling text on your homepage (a quick fix - just make it small and static). Also, some of the backgrounds clash a bit with the text. One trick I use a lot is just to go into photoshop or whatever and crank up the brightness while decreasing the contrast, so that the background is lighter and more uniform in color. Good luck!

Oh one more thing...I really like the box on your front page that says "Praise For..." - the font, the box, the birds, it's all very eye-catching...plus it highlights your new CD!

Thanks for the input! Which background(s) did you feel were a problem? Hey are you on faculty at Stanford? I too earn my living as an educator at both the secondary and college levels. |

Thanks to those who sent PM's and emails!
I have made some modifications per suggestions... this forum is just as good as a think tank or consultant in my book ... a lot cheaper too. further suggestions are welcome |
