Default Martin Retro demo 1 week vs new

1 Week old:

New:

It sounds like a little bit of the "edginess" is gone.

To be continued......

I'm glad you posted this!

Yes, there is a distinct difference whereby the "1 week old" sound is much smoother and fuller -- less one dimensional, less thin.

I look forward to "week two...."

Not a huge difference but it is there so I have to agree...and they're sounding good.
Thanks for that Barry.

Interesting...just put some on my J-45 yesterday. So I’m only on day two. But so far, so good.

I'll do the same tune next week sometime for a comparison then as well.

The strings went on 1/13/18 and the first recording was 1/16/18 and the second was yesterday, so it really isn't a week, just 3 days between recordings and there is still that difference. A lot of the edginess that was there was coming from the trebles, which aren't nickel. I can hear the difference in the wounds but I'm not sure if it comes through when playing a song because I palm mute a lot.

A better comparison would be just strumming a bunch of chord progressions without any other right hand work.

It may not be a scientific comparison, but its fun doing it anyway

Next time I change strings on my Martin I'm thinking about going retro on it, so I'll do a better comparison routine.

I posted this elsewhere, but I thought I would also pop it in here since it's a newer thread. I pad recording through it's microphone and the Retro Strings have less than three hours on them. A 1.0mm Dunlop Prime Tone is used.
