Default Mark Hatcher's Studio 2017 #2

This is a continuation of the Hatcher's Studio 2017 thread;
http://www.acousticguitarforum.com/f...455791&page=21

So let's pick up where we left off on this Mad Rose and Carter Redwood lullaby parlor. I did the initial clean up of the body's curly Koa binding today and have been setting up the neck. Here are a couple pictures of the binding;

Thanks for following!
Mark

Default Neck Assembly

With the body pretty well finished it's time to move forward on the neck. Here the fret board is being glued on;

While that was drying I created the headstock overlay and glued on the laminates to the back of the tuner head.
Here is a picture of everything in place. I haven't really carved the neck yet, I just trimmed it a bit. Fine carving of the neck and voicing the top are two
jobs I only do first thing in the morning;

We're in the phase where we can pull away from looking at components and start looking at the guitar. Now the imagination stretch is what the finish will do!

Default Base Rate Increase

On November 1st my base rate is getting a substantial increase. As a courtesy to the many AFGers that regularly follow my posts and build threads I'd like to let you know that I have a limited number of build start dates available within the next two years in which the present rates can be locked with the initial deposit if made before the Nov 1 date. Please PM me if you'd like any additional details.

Thanks!
Mark

Thanks ukejon!

I'm starting the final clean up to get this guitar all set for spraying.
Here is the a picture showing the Rosewood neck with a cross grained Koa center laminate. You can also see the heart sound port (not cleaned up yet);

This back picture shows the figured Koa back strap, heel cap and end graft;

And a front shot;

Thanks for viewing!

Thanks! I've got it all cleaned up to be sprayed so this one will go quiet for awhile. With finish the rosewood will get darker and the Koa will really come to life. There will be a larger color difference between the the Redwood top and the Koa binding.
Meanwhile we'll work out what color tuners to use, what wood for the custom buttons, and what fret wire.

Thanks for following along!
Mark

I'm just cleaning up from having my studio open as part of the Monadnock Art Tour. This was my third year participating and word has gotten out that there is a guitar maker in Peterborough. A lot more musicians stopping through with several orders in process.
The highlight for me was Monday when a group jam spontaneously arose with random players, random playing styles all just came together. I've never heard so many of my guitars played together at once as in this casual get together.
I believe I'll try to set up for that better next year. The other artists will be jealous of the party going on at Studio #21!

Default jam

That must have been very fun to witness. You don't get to hear your own out front all that often and to hear a bunch of them...!
