Your Most Versatile Taylor?
Taylor owners:
I was wondering which Taylor body size you find to be most versatile. BTW, I currently own a Taylor 510-L9, 614CE, 214, 214CE, GS Mini, and Baby Taylor. |

For me it is my DN3 & DN4 to be the most versatile. These dreads can do it all.

For me its my 814ce. It does everything well. I play everything with it. I just purchased my first gs mini last night and have been playing it all day. It is also an awesome guitar. For a guitar this small it is surprisingly loud. I have been very happy with this thing. Its very versatile in its own way. Where my 814 is versatile in playing styles, this things versatility shines in other ways. I don't mind if my kid learns on it. I don't mind taking it down to the beach like i did today, and I can play it and take it anywhere.

I'm in for the GS. I think they bring out a bit more bass and can easily hang with the dread crowd or the figerstylists. Next up, you might try to zero in one the model. For me, it would be the 816CE or the 616CE.

For me it's my koa GS. I have a 96 710, 97 baby, and the 08 fall limited GS. Of my small collection, the GS gets most play time.

After having owned (and given up) a variety of Taylors in the past years, I have to arrive at the GA body as the do-all guitar shape for me ...and in cedar/rw to boot.
Admittedly, if one were to tell me years ago that a cear/rw would make for a good all-purpose guitar, I would have said that's crazy talk. But Taylor's voicing with the GA-cedar-rw made me a believer; sheer magic, IMHO. Truly versatile and can cover many many a style (and if you need more volume, plug er in ...lol! ). Edward |

I find the GA to be the most versatile. It's known as the "swiss army knife" of Taylors. Both my GAs handle fingerpicking and strumming well.

Definitely the GA shape for me. Love my 814ce and my BTO is a GA also.

816 for me. i love the all around performance of sitka/EIR, the GS shape just fits me perfect and does everything more than well.
i used to always have 4-5 guitars of all shapes/woods/brands-makers around-thought i needed all that. found the 816 and sold everything. its all i need, pretty much all i want. cured my GAS for quite a while now. removed the pickguard(yea, no tan line), so i love it even more. d |

For my needs, I chose a 2000 914c Grand Auditorium, for its size, its EIR back and sides and Englemann spruce top. It handles my not-too-aggressive strumming quite handily, yet responds to a much lighter fingerstyle just as easily.
The Grand Symphony size had not yet been released when I got my 914, but I've tried several since they came out. If I were buying a Taylor today I would have to give them a more strenuous audition, along with the still new Grand Orchestra (given what I have in my other guitars). But I haven't found any Taylors besides my 914 and 612 that made me think seriously of switching. cotten |

Most of us have one guitar that we believe plays and sounds a bit better than the others.
My 814ce is all the Taylor I will ever need and it's hard to imagine why I wouldn't pick it up. Of course I would like a nice Martin, or a McPherson. But that's lots of additional money when many other practical problems need cash. I am fortunate to have been able to afford the 814ce and I will certainly never be "limited" by it.
