Default The Lamentation of Owen Roe O'Neill, O'Carolan arr. John Renbourn

Yesterday I had the opportunity to demo two guitars recently finished by Ralph Bown of York, UK. This one is an OM in Brazilian Rosewood & Sitka.

Here's 'The Lamentation of Owen Roe O'Neill' by Turlough O'Carolan arranged by John Renbourn, tuning: DGDGBbD (Gm). The piece has been on my radar since I bought 'The Hermit' in the 80s, with it came a small pamphlet with the score/TAB for the main theme, I hadn't really spent much time with it until a few of my students recently took an interest...

I hope you enjoy it.

Jonny

I love that piece, beautifully played. And on a Bown no less!! Quite a pedigree. I think we can thank Clive Carroll and Dariush Kanani for leading a revival of Renbourn and his contemporaries amongst the younger players today.

Love that tune and you play it so well; I might even prefer yours to Renbourn's version!

Cheers,
Steve

Thanks Maxwell - it was John Renbourn who inspired my interest in Early and Baroque music and opened up the possibilities on steel string to me. Clive is a force of nature and done so much for contemporary guitar.

Man, I could listen to you play TV jingles, with that beautiful technique and laser focus on melody.

Cheers - it's one of those pieces that almost plays itself and a pleasure to be immersed in such a great arrangement by Renbourn.
