Default Your Eastman guitar:- Pickguard or no pickguard?

What have you gone for? I've heard reports of some players noticing a "huge" difference in tone between their having & not having pickguards installed. Others, not so much that it is/was noticeable.

There is merit in protecting the delicate finish for pick players or those with long nails though.

Did you fit a pickguard & notice a discernible difference or not?

Enough that you took it off, or not?

Or did you install 1 on the basis that protection was your priority over anything else?

I have not installed the pickguard that came in the case with my Eastman. It's just a pretty guitar without it and I don't want to spoil the look.

I specifically requested a tortoise guard on my Eastman E8D. For flat picking, it serves it's purpose. I couldn't say what the guitar might sound like without it, but I have no complaints. The guitar sounds better all the time. I also have some smaller body guitars with no guards I use for finger picking . For that kind of playing (at least as I do it), there's little need for a guard so I don't bother. I think it would take an especially discerning ear to hear the difference in tone a pick guard would make. Much less, I'd say, than draping one's arm over the lower bout.

When I bought my E20 OM at Mass Street I asked them to install a pickguard.
The guitar sounds great, I don't believe it would sound better without. I just don't like the looks of a guitar without a pickguard.

I got to pick mine from a bunch of them at the shop, GuitarsPlusUSA. It doesn't affect the sound at all.

No pickguards for me... I looked around at all the guitars on my walls and there are NO pickguards on them.. save one with a transparent thing.

no pickguard for me either on my E20OM, I find the adirondack top very sensitive even in that area.

None on any of mine, but I like the look of no pick guard, no idea if it affects the tone of the instrument though.

My E10D sports a tor-tis firestripe pickguard from LMI, and I haven't regretted it. I spend most of my time flatpicking, so I knew I needed one, but I wanted something a little different from the various Martin-style guards on offer. I had the guitar for about six months before I got the pickguard, and I don't really notice a difference, or if there is one, it's been dwarfed by other changes in the couple years that I've had it.

Your E20-OM looks great! I've just ordered the same style & colour pickguard for both my E20 & my E6.

I have a small teardrop pickguard onmy E 20 OM - I reasoned that if it was good enough for Martin in the 30s, it should be OK on a guitar that's close to that spec..

Given the nature of Eastman's nitrocellulose finish, and the kind of playing that we often do on dreads, I think it's a good idea to go with a pickguard. The teardrop looks good on an OM and makes sense if you do much strumming on it...
