Recording acoustic-electric, modeling plugins, synth
Hello,
Didn't see an "introduce yourself" sub-forum, my name is sunaj and I am an instrumental guitarist, moving up to a VS 2000CD recorder that I bought a few years back, interested in some of the fantastic modeling software available for recording, I have the Vs8f-2 and Vs8f-3 expansion card for effects, though I see the plugins for Vsf8f-3 are pricey and some difficult to find, if you're a guitarist and have a particular effect you have found useful I would like to hear your thoughts, Cheers sunaj |

Welcome to the forum
I googled the VCD2000 and found out it is a Roland (you forgot to mention the brand). Unfortunately I do not use a multi track all in one type. So I can't suggest anything specific. Although there are a number of people on the forum who do use multi track But to clarify perhaps you could give more info. For example when you say "modeling software" what are you meaning specifically = modeling Guitars, Amps, Cabinets, Mics, etc, ?

WHile I have an interest in how to change the sound of the guitar and have used plugins to make my acoustic sound anything like itself, I'm more frequently trying to figure out how best to capture the sound of an acoustic guitar. A really good pickup and preamp help a lot. Sometimes, depending on the mix, I'll mic the guitar with one mic on one track and record the pickup on another track. Effects, slight or moderate panning and amp simulator plugins can be helpful if I'm not after a pure acoustic sound.
I just heard of an electric guitar that is pretty much all in the box. String tension has little or nothing to do with proper tuning and alternate tunings are a button push away. This system apparently also has guitar simulation so it can sound like a Les Paul, Strat or whatever. I haven't heard it yet, so I can't speak to how well it does any of these things. Ahhh, here's the Line 6 variax. Hear for yourself… http://line6.com/variax-modeling-guitars/sound/ Regards, Ty Ford |

What a fun site,
the 1967 Martin® O-18 was amazing, I use an electric guitar for dubbing effects, but don't think of the electric as a solo instrument (which is not to say there aren't people doing that) seems like so many effects are targeted for the R&R crowd, the Strymon Blue Sky and the Eventide Space sound interesting https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SDTGwtpUdmU thanx for the link, sunaj |
