Laminated Back Crack?
https://i.imgur.com/kXLlAtT.jpg
Hello Everyone! I hope the above image shows up correctly. I have a Seagull with solid cedar top/laminated cherry back and sides. I noticed the other day what looks like a crack running from upper to lower bout on the back (Inside of guitar to left of label). It almost looks like a seam since it runs perfectly straight. It's strange if it is a crack since there is nothing on the solid top and I keep it in it humidified in case. This very well could have been there for a long time and I just never noticed. Thanks for the help. |

The inside lamination has an extra joint. It is very common on laminated guitars, and nothing to worry about.
Most all laminated guitars are made from three layers, with the grain running crosswise (90 degrees) in the middle layer. This makes it more stable, and immune to cracks from humidity changes. Very often, wood that is narrow or cosmetically flawed is used for the inside and middle laminations, where it is less visible. |
