Need some help for nut and saddle, please.
Hi guys, two quick questions or maybe three.
1-) are those nut and saddles which come from factory made out from bone ? 2-) How can I tell if they are made or not from bone 3-) Any tip to buy a good set of nut and saddle in the UK or US, Ebay etc... |

1) depends on brand and model
2) look with a magnifying glass for grain - alternately, look for casting marks 3) many local shops will sell bone blanks, and there are specialists, like Bob Colosi, who will make replacements for you. I'd start by talking to a guitar tech and see what they say -

Usually, factory guitars do not have bone saddles & nuts. On the undersides of artificial saddles and nuts, you can see injection molding holes, as well as sometimes larger holes in nuts (presumable to help hold the saddle in position with glue, since glue doesn't hold much purchase on plastic nuts).
The best way to get a good nut and saddle for your instrument is to bring it to an experienced luthier or tech.
