A guitarist who hailed from New Jersey,
Was embroiled in some deep controversy.
Other’s guitars he insulted...
His banning - what resulted...
For his soul we all pray for Mercy!

Oh that is so funny! I think Long Jon should win even when he doesn't want the strings!!!

Here's my lame attempt:

There once were some strings in Carson City,
That required me to be extra witty.
But being a dolt,
And getting quite olt,
I gave up my hopes on this ditty!

There once was a gee-tar with dead strings,
And a player who couldn't make them sing.
She got in a trance,
Wrote a limerick by chance,
Then arrested for illegal busking!

I know I'm here in Holland
the low land of white sand and strand,
Even though I have no chance to win it
my Limerick is still in it,
just because SP's are my brand.

I gen’ rally play D’addario lights
I love them for the Bass and the brights.
But free Martin strings
They’re wonderful things
I’d play them with great delight.

Or,

Martin strings are offered for free.
And I’m ornery as ornery can be.
On my Taylor they’d play
To Elixirs dismay.
And I’d laugh and I’d laugh, til I pee.

Default so close to Carson for love

I'm so close to Carson for love
Of snow in the hills above
Though mediums I also play
On acoustics this day
Unlike John I ain't gonna shove

We didn't cover limericks much in school, pity, but I'll give it a go.

She grabbed my guitar in her big arm
I pried it loose with lots of charm
Oh, how great was my chagrin
When she snatched it back again
And my guitar bought the farm

P.S.: Oldguy64 cheated, he submitted two. Shame on you, Oldguy64.

In one post.
Cheating would have been making two separate posts. 😂

These strings are so dead I’ve been playing,
They sound like a donkey a-braying.
How sweet it would be,
With some gratis SPs,
I might grow to like my own playing!

A late entry;

What would Mr. Lear say?

This really wouldn't have happened back in his day!

To write a limerick that isn't naughty?

Really, aren't they supposed to be bawdy?

But I guess if I get new strings, it's OK!

And the winner is...

ataylor with this entry:

"Free strings,” said he on the forum,
“Times three, just a rhyme or two for ‘em.”
Ne’er before did I play
Wires from Naz’reth P-A,
So I posted in hopes I might score ‘em. "

All entries brought a smile to my face, so thank you for that. I had three or four faves, but I have to give it the the one above for form, style and content.

Funny...I teach math and now I'm judging poetry? Oy vey...what is the world coming to?

Aw, thanks! Finally, those AP English and creative writing classes pay off!

It was a fun thread, lots of deserving responses. Now I need to think of something I can give away in a similar manner.
