Default Walt Grace's Submarine Test, January 1967 by John Mayer (cover)

Hi All,

Perry (Looburst) from the AGF asked me on my YouTube channel if I would record John Mayer's "Walt Grace" song. Perry reminded me that I had mentioned some time ago on the AGF that I had figured this song out.

Trouble is, I had forgotten the song! But with Perry's encouragement, I relearned it over the last few days and recorded it today.

The guitar is my Santa Cruz OM/PW with D'Addario EJ16 (PB, light) strings on it. I have changed the arrangement some to fit my more "folkie" style and to accommodate my wife's reactions to my first attempts at this song, which emulated more of John Mayer's more "mechanical" playing, I assume to simulate the sound of machinery on Walt's submarine. My wife didn't go for the mechanical style at all, so I played the song with a straight Travis pick and changed the key from C to D. I'm sure some of my chord choices are different from John Mayer's, too.

I really like the way John Mayer plays this song. But for whatever reason, my arrangement came out rather different. I hope you still like it. I think it's a really fascinating story.

Thanks for listening.

- Glenn

I don't know that song, but it was interesting. I liked it. Nice job... and I love that Santa Cruz.
