The neck on this guitar is exactly the same shape and contour found on the 000-18GE. The only difference is that this neck is carved from a single piece of 12/4, highly flamed South American Mahogany.
It is not like the deeper neck contour found on the 000-18 Authentic, OM-18 Authentic, or the OM-28 Marquis for example.

The tone is similar, but not exactly like, a 000-18 Authentic, no doubt due to the Adirondack top and bracing coupled with hide glue. It is quite dry and articulate with great separation. African Mahogany typically imparts a somewhat brighter tone than the American Mahogany which tends to be the case on this Custom Shop build. It has a very pleasing and snappy voice all its own.

Hope this helps.

Smile 12/4 neck...

Please pardon my ignorance, but what does 12/4 signify? Duh...

What a beauty. Amazing it is still here at this price from this seller!

Cheers

Paul

That shot is pretty cool. You'll have to teach us all how you get a guitar to balance upside down like that...those Martin people certainly know how to build a balanced guitar

Just funnin'. That's a nice looking guitar. Like Paul, I too wonder what 12/4 means??

He lives in Arizona... it's all sand. He just stuck the headstock into the sand. It's called the 'Ostrich Pose'!

Just kidding, John! I love this guitar.

12/4 means a neck carved from a 1-piece mahogany block, with guaranteed no headstock wings. It's a $500 MSRP ($300 street) upcharge.

Otherwise, you take your chances in the "Select Hardwood" lottery.

Thanks Brencat.

Let me add that the 12/4 is simply the size of the wood in fourths of an inch, so 12/4 would equal 3". Brencat is correct in saying that at this width of wood, no wings are required to be glued on to widen the headstock. It's one piece.
Amazingly, even as fine a guitar as the Martin 000-42 Marquis was built using wings on the headstock! I was surprised to discover that.

John

Someone reminded me to mention that the upcharge Brencat talked about is just for the standard mahogany 12/4 dimension. If you want that neck in 12/4 flamed mahogany as is the case with this guitar, well now you're really talking upcharge!

Guitar is still available for now.
