Emerald Neck
I have owned, and enjoyed , my Rainsong WS1000 for years.
I love the tone, projection, and durability of carbon fiber. I have been strongly considering add for ab Emerald X20. I have never seen one in person, much less played one. My only issue with the Rainsong is the original neck. My left hand fatigues after more than a couple of hours. Current owners, how would you describe the neck? Is it like any other builders' necks? Thank you. Gerry |

I own both, the Emerald is what I would call a D shaped neck, the RS a small C shape. The Emerald feels wider and flatter on the back, it is very comfortable to me. There has been a lot of discussion about this lately, a search should bring it up for you.

Gerry, does your RainSong have the original neck (no truss rod) or the N2 neck? I find the Emerald neck on my X20 more comfortable and less bulky than the NS (N2) neck on my RainSong Shorty. Both are very playable, but my preference has been towards a Taylor-type neck profile (the X20 is closer to that than the N2 neck).

If you have the original WS1000, not the newer WS1000N2, than your neck is very close to the x20 neck. The new N2 neck by Rainsong was actually designed to provide more comfort for extended periods. If you have the newer N2 model, than the x20 will be slightly wider, with a lower profile but still a D shape. BTW, if you prefer a C shape neck, more like Taylor, look to Composite Acoustics or Blackbird. |

I haved played my Taylor 114ce for the last 8 years, and received my Emerald Opus X20 about three weeks ago. I too had been concerned about the comfort of the Emerald neck, but the switch was very easy.
